John Rhys Davies talks about his time as Gimli and looks back at Indiana Jones…..
John Rhys-Davies played Gimli and voiced Treebeard in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings – we need to point out that he played a dwarf even though he is the tallest actor in The Fellowship of the Ring, his height being of 6’1″. That was the perfect height to play a dwarf as tall as he was compared to the hobbits. He was invited to be in Peter Jackson’s movie, The Hobbit but he refused the part and said, “I don’t think my face could take that punishment again”, being allergic to the heavy makeup needed. John Rhys-Davies is also famous for playing the Egyptian character Sallah in Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade.
