Have you ever watched Star Trek and thought you could do a better job, or yearned to fly a starship where no man has gone before? Then now is your chance. Star Trek Bridge Crew is a VR game that allows you and up to three friends command your own starship, but be warned, it’s not as easy as you might think. The game released on the 30th May and is available on PSVR, Oculus and Vive with cross platform play, so you don’t need all your friends on one platform. As with most Ubisoft releases, it has been reported to be a little buggy in places.
If you don’t have friends rich enough to invest in VR then there is a group finding function that will group you with random players, but the word is that it’s more fun with friends over random people. I’ll never know as none of my friends have VR. There is also a single player function. In my currently limited experience, the AI does a good job in all but the helmsman role – that idiot will hit every mine in the area if you don’t take over. I can’t give a full review just yet, due to a lack of internet, but as soon as I get to sample the online elements, I’ll give you guys my full verdict.
My early impressions are good if not great. I can certainly see the potential here, but it does feel like a game that could get repetitive quite quickly. I’ll update you on that in a few weeks, until then happy trekking.
