Destiny 2 had a very shaky start, back when it released in 2017, but 2018 saw it turn its fortunes around with its second year of DLC releases. Today comes an even bigger turn around as the franchise launches its latest instalment of paid DLC, Shadowkeep, and makes a huge swathe of previous content free to play, New Light. The franchise’s exit from Activision is due today with the PC version of the game moving from Battle.net support to Steam. All existing PC players can transfer to Steam for free along with all their characters and save data.
For those who have not played Destiny 2, now is a good time to give it a try, as all the base game along with the first annual pass content and some of the second annual pass content is free to play. It is the same for those who bought the base game, back at release, but have not invested in any of the paid DLC. You do not need to have previously purchased Destiny 2 to get access to New Light content. As of 6pm on October 1st, it will be completely free to download and play.
All of the above changes are to set the way for the start of the third year of paid DLC releases, with Shadowkeep being the first instalment. Shadowkeep will be launching today for PS4, PC and XboxOne for around £29.99. This will get you the all new campaign missions, a new raid and dungeon, new exotic quests, Nightmare hunts and access the Vex offensive activity and more.
