Since 1955, Eastercon (the British National Science Fiction Convention), has taken over the Easter weekend. This year, it goes under the name of Dysprosium and the guidance of Australian Judi Hodgkin.

UK (and non) SF fans will converge on the Park Inn at Heathrow, for 4 days of all things sci-fi: books, art, movies, TV, costumes, workshops, panels, talks and discussions . This year’s Guests of Honour are Jim Butcher (author of the Dresden Files, the Codex Alera, and a new steampunk series, the Cinder Spires), Seanan McGuire (writer and Campbell Award winner for Best New Author), Herr Döktor Ian Crichton (creator of Steampunk art, with pieces exhibited at Museum of Science in Oxford and the Guildhall Museum in London) and Caroline Mullan (former Chair of the Science Fiction Foundation).

One of this year’s highlights is the Dalekdrome or Pimp my Dalek! It’s a competition of 12-inch remote-controlled Daleks who, after receiving a makeover, will have to navigate an obstacle course. You think you’ve got what it takes? A challenge, for any true Dr Who fan.

For those of you, like me, who have made this event part of their regular yearly schedule, you know how vibrant and fun Eastercon can be. So if you have never been, give it a try. Take a stroll through the dealers’ room, stir your imagination as you explore the art show, sipping ale in-between events, then stop for a blether with friends and make new ones. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
