Last week heralded the release of two anticipated titles. Both released on the 16th of May. Here is a few things about each along with my first impressions. Reviews are incoming.

Farpoint (PSVR exclusive)

This is a release I’ve been eagerly awaiting. Farpoint is a first person PSVR exclusive shooter, and the first title to support the PS4 Aim controller which released with the game. Many gamers have been both anticipating and dreading this title’s launch as with the hype grew to proportions reminiscent of No Man’s Sky, another title produced by an indie developer and funded by Sony which failed it’s launch rather spectacularly, crushing the hype on day one. Many gamers expressed fears of a repeat with Farpoint’s launch and was the main reason cited for not pre-ordering the game.

I did pre-order the bundle, containing the game and attachment. Despite being failed by amazon, along with a number of other uk gamers, I still managed to get my copy on day one, and I can say that I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Farpoint is everything it promised to be, along with the Aim controller. It has solid first person shooter mechanics, a decent story to carry you through the single player, and a choice of engaging in co-op. In first person shooter terms, it’s content is all fairly standard. What makes it stand above the competition is purely down to the VR and Aim compatibility. If you’re not willing to invest in the controller bundle then this is a game that you might want to skip as most of the enjoyment is in the synergy of game and accessory.

I’m still working my way through the game and will be writing a full review once I’ve thoroughly explored all its content.

Injustice 2 (PS4 and Xbox One)

This is a game that I didn’t pre-order but which was, rather persistently, recommended to me. I’ve not played a fighting game in a long time, since the Tekken 3 days. However, the appeal of taking control of DC comic book heroes and villains to battle against each other was alluring enough to draw me in. It’s a solid fighting game with a lot of single player and multiplayer content to sink your teeth into. Content which I’m still working my way through.

My first impressions are certainly good. The single player campaign has a very decent storyline for a fighting game and there’s a lot of additional content, for once that’s done and dusted. Stay tuned as there’s a full review incoming for this title too.
