Another year, another 5 days-frightathon. Tomorrow is the day: welcome to the 2015 edition of Film4 Frightfest.
From London’s Prince Charles cinema, in 2000, Frightfest has come a long way. Conceived by Paul McEvoy, Ian Rattray and Alan Jones, its objective was to create a UK-based horror fantasy festival, like those of mainland Europe.
As sign of its success, the festival moved to Screen One of the Odeon West End cinema in 2005, showing Land of the Dead with Romero himself in attendance. A year later, it moved to the larger Screen Two room, showing Pan’s Labyrinth – this time in the presence of Del Toro.
In 2009, “The Woodstock of Gore” as Del Toro called it, moved to the larger Empire Cinema, only to move again five years later, this time at the Vue, West End, a state of the art multiplex.
As well as the film festival, Frightfest organises an annual Halloween party and a two-day event in February at the Glasgow Film Festival.

The prices for this year are: festival pass £185. Day passes are Thursday – £30, Friday and Saturday £60, Sunday and Monday £50. Single tickets £13.25. Single ticket sales start on July 25 and there will be a pop-up box office at the event for last-minute and walk-in ticket sales.
