With the shortlist voting now closed, the Gemmell Awards for 2018 enter their final phase, building towards the prestigious ceremony at Derby’s Edge-Lit 7 event at the popular QUAD venue.

This year the Gemmell Awards celebrates its tenth anniversary, and will once again be recognising and honouring the very best fantasy fiction of the year, as selected by readers and fans. Three prizes will be presented at the ceremony, with the winners of the Legend Award for Best Fantasy Novel, the Morningstar Award for Best Fantasy Debut and the Ravenheart Award for Best Fantasy Cover Art/Design being revealed on the night.

As well as hosting the Gemmell Awards, the Edge-Lit 7 event will be offering a packed day of panels, readings, interviews, workshops, book launches and much more for fans of fantasy, horror, science-fiction and crime writing. The event continues to expand year on year and this year offers up a hugely exciting Guest of Honour line-up taking in Costa Book Award winner Frances Hardinge, bestselling historical and fantasy author Conn (CF) Iggulden, acclaimed horror author Paul Tremblay – Edge-Lit’s first US speaker – and popular dystopian fiction writer Adrian J Walker.

The presentation ceremony takes place from 8pm-9pm, with post-event drinks from 9pm until late.

Alex Davis, Literature Officer for QUAD, said: “Edge-Lit is always a highlight of QUAD’s literature calendar, and the Gemmell Awards ceremony is a fantastic way to cap off what is already a day packed with activities! I can’t wait for the 10th anniversary ceremony and seeing who brings home the prizes in 2018.”

Stan Nicholls, Chair for the Gemmell Awards, said:  “Ten years of the awards honouring one of fantasy fiction’s leading exponents is quite an achievement, and only made possible by the hard work of a dedicated team of volunteer enthusiasts.  But the most important people are the readers, the fans, who have made the whole thing possible by voting in their thousands.  We salute them.”

Edge-Lit 7 runs on Saturday 14th July from 10am-late (doors 9am), with the Gemmell Awards prizegiving taking place at 8pm. Tickets for the event are £30 and can be booked from QUAD Box Office on 01332 290606 or from https://www.derbyquad.co.uk/events/edge-lit-7.aspx.
