Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel to the very popular Horizon Zero Dawn, is releasing on Friday 18 February. The title is a Playstation exclusive and is releasing only on PS4 and PS5. Aloy returns as the main protagonist and sets out to explore a massive new region, the Forbidden West, based on the states of California, Nevada and Utah. The player can explore a post-apocalyptic version of San Francisco and engage in the newly added underwater exploration. The new storyline follows Aloy as she ventures into the new region looking for the source of plague that kills all it infects. The new region hosts new enemies both machine and human and new challenges.

The early reviews are generally positive with many agreeing that the sequel improves and expands the formula of the original. The game mechanics, new enemies, character designs and storyline have all been very well received. For those of you who have yet to get hold of a PS5 console and are reluctant to fork out for the PS4 version, then the PS4 version comes with a free upgrade option. You can play it now on your PS4 then upgrade to the PS5 version, as soon as you get a PS5 console.

Early PS4 to PS5 version comparisons seem to indicate that the game does run smoothly on PS4, albeit with understandably toned down graphics. However, it is likely that some players may wish to experience the title at is best and wait until they can get a PS5 console before taking the plunge. Feel free to check out the trailers above and below for a glimpse of what the new sequel offers.
