The literary tracks at Nine Worlds are always interesting and diverse. Today, Claire Powell gives us a taste of what to expect.
“All of the Books at Nine Worlds Geekfest 2015 is a celebration of literary geekery, with panels featuring the biggest and brightest voices in genre fiction as well as highly popular workshops, game shows, debates and signings. The juggernaut, which began in 2013, has gathered speed, ensuring the books track is now bigger and better than ever, with a host of authors and guest panelists such as Laurell K Hamilton, Joe Abercrombie (shortlisted for this year’s David Gemmell Legend Award), Joanne Harris, and many more.
The highly popular Monster Classes are also returning, with workshops on the specifics of writing, screen writing, publishing, marketing, advice from literary agent, Juliet Mushens, and even information on sword fighting, pathology and Egyptology.
The Sunday morning Super Relaxed Fantasy Club Brunch with ubiquitous coffee and pastries (courtesy of Orbit Books) also makes its Nine Worlds debut this year for those feeling fragile after a late Saturday night, or who just fancy meeting new people and authors.
The whole books shebang starts on Friday 7th August at 10:00 and ends on Sunday 9th at 16:30.
The much-coveted David Gemmell Awards for Fantasy, a highlight of the fantasy fiction calendar, recognising and rewarding the very best in fantasy fiction and artwork, will also take place at Nine Worlds Geekfest 2015 at 8:00 pm on Saturday 8th.
Stan Nicholls, Chair for the Gemmell Awards, said: “I couldn’t think of a better event for us to partner with than Nine Worlds, and we look forward to bringing another superb awards ceremony not only to our regular attendees, but also a whole new audience on August 8th.”
“Nine Worlds is immensely proud to be hosting the 2015 Gemmell Awards,” said Erich Schultz, co-founder of Nine Worlds Geekfest. “The Gemmells play a terrific and important role in the fantasy literary scene, and the Nine Worlds team and attendees are hugely excited to be a part of this wonderful institution.”
