Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange, M.D., also known as Doctor Strange, is a fictional Marvel superhero. Created by Steve Ditko, the character first appeared in Strange Tales #110 in July 1963.
Doctor Strange is a great surgeon, who loses his surgical dexterity after a car accident. He decides to travel the world looking for a way of healing his hands, and this is how he meets the Ancient One. He becomes one of the old Sorcerer Supreme’s students, a practitioner of both mystical and martial arts.
He has many powerful spells and a costume with two mystical objects — the Cloak of Levitation and Eye of Agamotto. He lives in a mansion called the Sanctum Sanctorum, in New York City, and later takes the title of Sorcerer Supreme.

The first movie, Doctor Strange, was released in 1978, with Peter Hooten in the lead role. Although the idea of a remake has been on the cards since the 80s, it was only in 2005 that Paramount took the plunge and bought the rights from Marvel. In 2014 Scott Derrickson was appointed to direct the movie and Benedict Cumberbatch to play the lead.
