As of Saturday 5th August “unusual sightings” have been spotted in some cities in the UK and the rest of Europe.  Kangaskhan and five versions of unown (E U R O P) will be spawning in some cities until 21st August. The full list of UK cities is below:

London

Birmingham

Manchester

Cardiff

Belfast

Glasgow

No special reason has been given by Niantic for the inclusion of this additional special event but it may be linked to the announcement of a delay to the Safari Zone event after the difficulties experience during the Pokemon Go Fest in Chicago. Included in this unusual sightings event is lured Pokestops in Unibail-Rodamco shopping centres for the weekends of the 12th and 19th of August, so this may be to fulfil contact obligations with the shopping centre chain after the delay of the Safari event also to be centred around those shopping centre. Either way, if you’re a little short changed for a trip to Australia to catch a Kangaskhan then now is the time to do it.

Additionally, today is the first day of spawning for the legendary electric bird, Zapdos, following on from the appearance of his siblings Articuno and Moltres. Zapdos will be spawning worldwide until August 14th.

On the subject of legendries, my current catch rates for previous legendries and Lugia are as follows:

Articuno: 10 raids completed – 1 Caught

Moltres : 10 raids completed – 1 Caught

Lugia: 5 Raids completed – 1 Caught

Many trainers are reporting better catch rates and it’s unclear as to if bad luck or a bug is responsible for my lower than average catch rates but even without the curve ball bonus with the majority of great and excellent non curve balls I’ve thrown and an average of 9 ball received per raid, the catch rate should be much higher. A friend of mine has done 5 raids (all of which I also participated in) and has caught one of each of the above legendries also using straight throws as a comparison.  Either way after a complaint sent to Niantic, I was refunded the 6 premium raids I bought in the first week. There was obviously no acceptance of blame, the refund was “complimentary”.

I wish the best luck for any trainers hunting the last legendary bird this week
