The latest instalments of the Pokémon franchise, Scarlet and Violet, are out now. The new title boasts an entirely open world, new regions and new Pokémon. Early reviews seem to show that the new open world style has been well received, but there are also reports of bad performance with graphical bugs and lag galore. Some have also complained of the choice not to include the national Pokedex Pokémon which means there are around 600 less Pokémon to capture in these titles. However, comments on the storyline, characters and open world have been very positive.

So, it is worth shelling out for? Well, most of the issues raised are fixable with patches, so if you are a long-term Pokémon fan then I’ve heard of no real reasons to skip these instalments. Most reviewers agree that despite having less Pokémon to catch, there is no shortage of things to do in game and that the storylines are fuller and more engaging that in Sword and Shield. It may be advisable, however, to wait a few weeks until the patch is released to fix the graphical issues, although some make them out to be more minor than others. There may be some luck involved as to how many you encounter. Feel free to check out the trailer above if you are interested or thinking of taking the plunge.
