The David Gemmell Awards for Fantasy enters its ninth year in 2017, once again honouring and celebrating the very finest in epic fantasy. Each year members of the general public are invited to vote for their favourite titles, and with the longlist voting now completed, the shortlists for these prestigious awards are about to be revealed.

Having been the most popular among a huge longlist of nominated titles featuring some incredible novels and artwork from around the world, the shortlisted titles will go forward with the chance to claim one of the three sought-after prizes – The Legend Award for Best Fantasy Novel, The Morningstar Award for Best Fantasy Debut and The Ravenheart Award for Best Fantasy Artwork.

The shortlists will be announced on Friday 21st April, with voting on the final five in each category open until midnight on Friday 2nd June. The winners will be announced at an evening ceremony at this year’s Edge-Lit 6 event, taking place at QUAD, Derby on the 15th July.

Awards Chair Stan Nicholls said: ‘The longlists always bring together the very best in fantasy fiction each year, so the shortlists are surely representative of the best of the best. We expect a fiercely competitive vote once again, and every single person who has their say could make a difference to the outcome of this year’s awards.’
