The Story so far:
1933 – Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
1942 – Here Comes Mister Jordan
As you can see there was a bit of a jump from the last ceremony. The 29th Academy Awards ceremony took place on Wednesday, March 27, 1957 at the RKO Pantages Theatre. The winners were selected from movies released in 1956.
Writing (Original Screenplay): The Red Balloon – Albert Lamorisse
The Red Balloon is a short fantasy movie directed by Albert Lamorisse. Original in its simplicity, it tells the story of a sentient balloon who begins to follow a little boy through Paris.
Although it has very little dialogue, the film won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
Thousands of prints were made of this movie and distributed to school across the country, making it one of the largest run out with a theater, in the history of American cinema.
