Released back in 2013 as a PS3 exclusive, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch was made by developer level 5 in collaboration with the famous Japanese animation studio, Studio Ghibli. The Studio Ghibli styled characters, storyline and soundtrack received very high praise when it released back in 2013. Now, a remastered version with improved graphics and performance is due to release for PS4, PC and Switch on Friday, 20th September.
With the PS3 being only one generation behind, there were some questions raised as to the necessity of a remaster, and it doesn’t seem likely that the improvements of the remaster will be substantial enough to make it worth a repurchase, by those who have the original. The original PS3 version was, after all, already an exceptionally good looking game. The remaster will raise the resolution and the frame rate to produce an overall smoother experience. Where this remaster will shine is for those who missed it the first time around, and with it releasing on platforms beyond Playstation for the first time, this should make the game available to an all new audience.
The original is still regarded as one of the best JRPGs made for the PS3. Even the release of the sequel, Ni No Kuni 2, hasn’t dampened the love of the original. If you enjoy a good RPG and you missed the game the first time then this is a good opportunity to grab a copy.
