Lucasfilm has made a major cast announcement for its upcoming “Obi-Wan Kenobi” TV series. The production is scheduled to begin in April, with six episodes in the planning. Twelve actor names have been officially revealed.
Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Obi-Wan. There is hardly any surprise about this. The actor himself has conveniently aged to a point that will more or less fit for the series (“Obi-Wan Kenobi” takes place ten years after Revenge of the Sith; sixteen years have passed since the film’s release).
Hayden Christensen was another confirmed returning star, also conveniently aged to reprise his role as Darth Vader. I have addressed the speculation of how and whether the two are going to meet and how it might fit into the story in my previous articles.
“Uncle Owen! Aunt Beru!”
Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse will play the parts of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, and yes, they are the same actors who appeared in Episodes II and III. Lucasfilm is clearly taking care of continuity here, which is great.
The remaining actors include Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Rupert Friend (The Young Victoria), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie. One would expect that perhaps one or two Imperial officers and several Tatooinians (maybe a sheriff and a couple of farmers) are hiding among these. You can place your bets.
Liam Neeson’s appearance as a memory or ghost of Qui-Gon has been speculated, but not officially confirmed.
We can probably expect much more to be revealed as the series begins production and May 4th looms closer. Stay tuned!
